You Like Buy Kalua Pig?

A bunch of us from work, all wahine, are trying to raise money to go to a conference in Peru next year. One of our first fundraisers was kalua pig/kalua spots. And this was held on the day that we got back from Vegas. Even though we were dead tired, our team needed all the help they could get, so we could not pass. This would be my first time experiencing a kālua and I am so glad that I went.

When we got there, the pit was already cleaned and the fire already started. Just waiting for the wood to burn down. Tai got all the kiawe from Kawaihae.

Now it was time to prep everything else. The banana leaves, the stumps, the meat.

Tai prepping the stumps.

The wahine making sure that everything was clean. Hahaha.

And of course, this wasn't just any kālua. As soon as the imu was ready, it started pouring, with thunder, and lightning. We don't just kālua, we call the gods and all. Hahaha.

We so lucky we get our kāne for help us. In the rain and all.

Now we wait.
