By the way, we didn't go to Peru just for fun, we actually went for a conference, the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education, better known as the WIPCE Conference. After a few days of touring, the conference got underway on our fourth day there. The opening ceremonies were held at Sacsayhuaman. If that seems a little hard to pronounce, it is, until you hear it. It sounds like Sexy Woman. Hahaha. Anyways, a beautiful place, even higher up at an elevation around 12,000 ft above sea level. A very long ceremony took place. Coca leaves were everywhere. We even took part in offering coca leaves to Pacha Mama, the Mother Earth. Interesting ceremony, but I wish we would have gotten to see a little more exchange between the many different cultures that were present that day.
Here are a few shots that I got that day.
