Peru Food

Everyone keeps asking, "What did you eat?" Well, prior to my trip to Peru, I had heard so many things about people getting food poisoning so I really thought that I wasn't going to be eating much except the M&Ms, dried ume, and beef jerky that I brought with me. I thought it was a perfect diet plan. However, as you can see from my previous posts about the wonderful continental breakfast and the meal on the train, I did not stick to that diet plan. I had to eat. Here are some of the things I ate. I basically played it safe, but who wants food poisoning, especially in a different country?

This was my very first meal there, fettucini alfredo with prosciutto. This would be one of the better meals I had in Peru. Yummy. However, be careful when ordering fettucini alfredo there. At one place, it came with ham slices. Not very tasty.

This was another meal on the train. Crepes with chicken, and of course the coca tea. =)

Spaghetti y champinones (spaghetti and mushrooms). Not one of my favorites. Tasted like spaghetti and cream of mushroom. Weird.

This was like a beef tomato. The beef was super soft, but I am not exactly sure what type of beef it was. I assumed it was cow.

This was my plate from a buffet. Just the usual, rice, pasta, trout, and ALPACA? Yup! Very tasty meat. I highly recommend trying alpaca.

They didn't have the quesadillas or the enchiladas that I wanted so I settled for some guacamole and chips. It was enough.

Mmmmmmm! I miss the bread and butter. It was so yummy!

I call these corn nuts because that's what they remind me of, but they actually taste more like popcorn. These were served as pūpūs at some of the restaurants.

And with our pūpūs, how about a little complimentary alcohol? Hahaha. We were so amazed that at some restaurants we were served complimentary pisco sours, a very popular drink in Peru. Too bad we couldn't bring any home with us.

The restaurant next to our hotel served brick oven pizzas. Yummy! This would be my favorite dish in Peru, the Pizza Vegeteriana. I had it three times. LOL. hahaha.

So I didn't eat the guinea pig that is a known delicacy in Peru, and I mostly ate italian or mexican food, but I did venture a little bit and had some alpaca. At least give me credit for that. =)

I was going to ask if you ate guinea pig. The food pictures all look good. I'll have to show my next door neighbor who is from Peru. (I'm starting to worry about your afinity for the coca tea.)

Oh no. I hope I don't offend your neighbor.

We were all loving the coca. I think I was just doing what I could so that I wouldn't get sick. If that means coca then I'm down. hahaha.
