Since we were already in Waimea for my doctors appointment, we figure we take Aunty to Kohala, just around the bend. We went to the statue and even picked up our favorite chantilly cake from Takata store. We miss Kohala, so it was nice to go for a short visit.
I don't have a pic, but on our way back to Hilo, we stopped at Tex for some malasadas. MMMMM!!!!
The next day we went out to Kapoho. Even though we didn't have the awesome beach house, it was nice to go out there just for a few hours and cool off. But my son is so not the water baby. SMH.
I love that he is smiling in that last pic. He usually doesn't. Guess he was enjoying his Aunty.
In all honesty, the whole Kapoho trip was because we wanted to take her to try Hawaiian Nachos at Aloha Lehua Cafe. Won-ton chips topped with kalua pig, lomi salmon, and the most divine secret sauce. YUM!!!! And when we reached back in Hilo, we still had room for Strawberry Slush Floats from Blaines. MMMMMMMMM!!!! Sorry, I'm not good with taking food pics. Come visit and we will show you in person. Haha!!!
On her last day, which was her birthday, we started off with feeding our faces at Hawaiian Style Cafe. And then we fed the hungry at Wailoa Park.
I think Aunty Shaw also got in some exercise. Haha!!!
We had such a great time and hope that Aunty Shaw did as well. So come visit us soon so we can venture out again and eat all the ʻono grinds Hawaiʻi has to offer. =)

Really enjoyed my visit. I felt bad for Hanu having to sit in the car sat sooooo long. Chantilly was awesome, but wish I could have tasted the beef at the Kohala shopping center. I only read about it after the trip. However, that Hawaiian nachos was Da BOMB!!! Can't wait to go there to eat it again. The strawberry float was ʻonolicious, too. I can't remember the malasadas so must not have stood out. Kapoho was nice as always. Love that place. And feeding the ducks was fun. I did get my exercise that day but I had to work off all the food I ate. Can't wait for our next food-a-kaʻi. Yum!
Sheezz, that was as long as a blog post, haha!
I think we have one more food to add, buttermilk donuts. I totally forgot about them. But I guess you would have to like the sweets. We shall try and get them when you guys come. Ive only had them when people bring them to work.
Aunty Shaw needs to bring some poi to make Poi Mochi. Delicious.
Too bad your visit to the Kamehameha statue wasn't the week after. Ola and his Kamehameha football team cleaned it for community service.Lol. I told him "What, they all took turns with one sponge"
I know. So junk that we couldn't get together with him.
Can make Poi mochi with any bag poi, mochiko four and sugar. and of course oil. I also saw someone add coconut milk. We can make when we go.
