Talk about Commute

When my mom and dad visited us in Hilo about 12 years ago, we took a drive out to Kona. I remember pointing out Maunakea to them. About an hour and a half later my dad asked, "Sheesh, when are we gonna past that mountain?" Hahaha. He finally realized what it really meant to commute to work. He told us a story about working with some guys from the Big Island on Oʻahu. They were complaining about having to commute to work (I'm assuming from Kona-Hilo or some long distance like that) and my dad told them, "Why, I commute everyday." That means, from Kahaluʻu to a work site probably 30-40 minutes away. These guys knew that too so of course they just laughed at him. After being in that car for 2 hours, he finally realized why they laughed at him.
Tai has become one of those guys. Five times a week, he drives to the beautiful Kohala side. Leaving Hilo around 3am, reaching Kohala about 5am, working for 8 hours, only to drive another 2 hours back to Hilo. Someone commented about me being able to walk to work, and Tai having to drive 2 hours. hahaha. Oh well, gotta do what you gotta do.
