New Homeowners

After almost a year from when we started, we finally got the keys to our first house. Yay!!! But the process was no way close to what they show on tv. They must get actors to do those shows. It seemed like forever.

I understand the 8 months we took to find a house. House hunting is not easy, especially when you don't approve for much. And then there are slim picking. But actually, we did like the third house we looked at on the very first day we looked at houses with our realtor. She told us to put in an offer, but I thought, "Wait. We just started." And then when I changed my mind, the house was pulled off the market. Auē!!! My first lesson in house hunting. Oh well, wasn't meant to be.

So we kept looking and found another home in Hilo with a nice size lot. We overlooked the fact that it was in a flood zone. We put in an offer and received a sign a day or two later that made us decide to withdraw our offer. It was a hard decision but I am ultimately glad that we did.

We kept on hunting and I remember seeing this one house in Hilo in a nice neighborhood. But the sale was already pending. SHUCKS!! And then about a month or two later, I receive a call from my realtor that the sale fell through and the house would be back on the market. GREAT!! We went to look at the house, and it did need a lot of work, but we could not pass on the price for that size lot and house, and its location. So we put in an offer. We then found out that they went with another offer. For some reason that offer fell through and we were up next. YAY!! I think it was meant to be.

You know how they show on tv when the offer is accepted and the realtor goes, "Congratulations! You just bought a house." and they hand over the keys and everything? WELL, it donʻt happen like that. It took four months from the day our offer got accepted to the day we got handed our keys. These financing people are strict. And some even a little incompetent. But after four long months of mounds of paperwork, we finally can say that we are homeowners. =) I still canʻt believe it.

Although we have the keys, we still have a lot of renovations ahead of us. I will try to update on how everything is going. Hopefully we will be living in our new home in a few months time. Then we will be ready for visitors. =)

Here is Tai at our front door with the beautiful plant from our realtor. These shots of Tai were taken while I was trying to figure out how to work the timer on the camera. Hahaha.

Still havenʻt figured it out. Hahaha.

Okay, there you go.

Our lovely weeds. Hahaha.
